He has been lost, deep within a forest.
Glimpses of sun give him hope,
But then they are gone –
Consumed by the density of life all around him.

He hears the soft squish of damp leaves beneath his feet.
The smell of wet earth and mold: an invigorating scent
That rises up into his senses –
A reminder that he exists in a world that does not want to know him.

I CANNOT SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES! he shouts.

I cannot see the life for the people, he whispers.

He cannot bring himself to walk into the light.
He will stay lost in that forest,
Sheltered by the very thing that frightens him:

the dark.
